Part of the challenge we face stems from our need to hold on to the things that make us who we think we are or need to be. We want to be part of things we should not be and wonder why it never works out. Our resolve makes us want more but our resolve keeps us grounded. I have learned that when we let go off the thinking that we held to keep us safe, we open ourselves to the newness of the season. Part of the journey is to live in the fullness of our truth. We are not called to perfection but to wholeness.
One of the things I’ve learned is that we will never have everything if refuse to let go off what we have held to keep us safe. We break the mold when we are no longer comfortable with the lies. When we are willing to look at what needs to be looked at honestly, and are able take responsibility for our actions, then can we move in response to it.
When we are no longer comfortable with sin, we no longer accommodate it. We no longer make room for the things that contradict the word of God, and we excuse ourselves where it contradicts the ways of God. When we compromise, we allow sin to grow or stay. James 1:15 tells us that when sin is full grown, it brings forth death.
We want to half bake everything. We want the benefits without relationships, the blessing without sacrifice. We want the seen without going through the unseen. We are more focused on the external neglecting the internal work that we need to do. Our walk with God is a journey and if we are not careful, we can fall in love with the aesthetic of religion instead of the cross.
When we no longer want benefit before relationship, fruit before sowing – we will grow in relationship because we, along with nature, honor God’s processes, the law of creation and so we grow in the knowledge of Christ. Let us rebel from wanting to reap before we actually sow and to focus on knowing God and aligning our thoughts, hearts and mind to His ways.
